Beaded Flower Earrings

This design is easy to do – an hour will make a pretty pair of post earrings.  Most of the beadwork is based on the right-angle-weave stitch.

Supplies for 1 pair :
               Miyuki Delica Beads –
                                Color A (center) – 34

Color B (petals) – 90

Color C (leaves) – 40

1 pair earring posts

Beading needle

Nymo thread

Beeswax

Jeweler’s cement or clear nail polish

Step 1
String 10 beads of color A onto 1 yard of waxed thread and tie into a ring (fig. 1).  Leave about 3” of tail to weave in later.

Step 2 (First petal) :
Pass through (PT) one of the A beads.  String 2 B, 1 C, 5 B, 1 C, and 2 B beads.  PT  the same A bead to form a ring (fig. 2).  Weave around the ring again, skipping every third bead (fig. 3).  Exit out the first C bead.  As you pull the thread taut, the skipped beads should move to the outside of the ring, making it look like a little square.

Step 3 (First leaf) :
String 3 C beads and PT the C bead on the edge of the petal (fig. 4).  Weave around to exit the opposite C bead.

Step 4 (Second petal) :
String 2 B beads and PT the A bead that is 2 beads away from the A bead attached to the first petal (fig. 5).  String 2 B, 1 C, 5 B, and PT the C bead of the first leaf (fig. 6).  Weave around the second petal again, skipping every third bead (fig. 7).  Pull taut to make the petal a square.  Weave around the petal to exit out the opposite C bead (fig. 8).

Step 5 :
Repeat Step 3 and Step 4 three more times to make leaves 2-4 and petals 3-5.

Step 6 (Fifth leaf) :
String 1 C bead and connect to the C bead in the first petal.  String one more C bead and complete the leaf (fig. 9).  Weave around the first petal to exit out of the connecting A bead.

Fig. 9
Step 7 (Center) :
String 3 A beads and PT the opposite A bead in the original ring (fig. 10 – in the chart, the beads are shown with spaces and with the petals missing for clarity).  Follow the stringing chart in fig. 11 to add 4 more A beads to the center.  The center will bulge up slightly.  Weave around the ring for stability and tie off.  Weave in the ends.
