WEE CARE BONNET |
| |
| |
This project makes a little mob-cap for a preemie. The hospitals that participate in our Wee Care Program have requested this style in preference to a more traditional smocked bonnet because the babies' tiny heads are often mishapen, and this style hides their irregularities. |

| 1. |
Cut a rectangle 37" x 7". Finish one long side and both short sides, by serging or by turning under a narrow hem.
| 2. |
Fold the unfinished long side under 1" and stitch.
| 3. |
Pleat the folded edge with 7 1/2-space rows.
| 4. |
Turn under the long finished edge 1/2" and stitch. This will become a casing for ribbon.
| 5. |
Remove pleated threads 3/8" from the edges.
| 6. |
Block the pleats to measure 7" from edge to edge. |

| 7. |
Smock 5 half-space rows, between rows 2 & 6. |

| 8. |
Remove pleating threads. |

| 9. |
Sew the 2 short sides right sides together, from smocked edge to casing. |

| 10. |
Insert 16" length ribbon through casing. Pull together and tie into a bow. |
