March 2009                             Presidents Letter

Ladies:

I have missed all of you so much. With the cancellation of the January meeting and my visit to Florida in February, I must say, I look forward to seeing all of you again at the March meeting. On the night of the workshop, I was thinking of all of you and wishing I was helping to assemble the gowns. I’m sure Dorcas and Dee did an outstanding job.

I would like to say a few words about the next several meetings. In May and June we had scheduled constructing an embroidered hanger. The one I have selected is from Inspirations 34. It is a lovely hanger using shadow work, silk ribbon and other various heirloom techniques. We can make this at a nominal fee. I am in the process of making kits. I will try and keep it under $5.00, especially if you supply some of the supplies. This hanger will make a great Christmas gift. We will discuss this further at the March meeting.

I had the privilege of making two Wee Care gowns for a family in Hamilton Square who lost a set of twins at Capital Health Services. I was asked to make a white gown and bonnet for a boy and a girl. They weighed only 14oz. I made matching bonnets which Mary Lou was so kind in assisting me. I have lovely photos that I will share with you.

Hope to see all of you at the March meeting.

THERE ARE SOME DISCREPENCIES IN DATES AND PROGRAMS.....The embroidered hanger program will 'start' in March with embroidery stitches...and continue in April and May with construction.  JUNE's program is the WEE CARE workshop at Linda's with a POTLUCK dinner.   The hostess list also needs to be changed for JUNE...I suggest all bring their calendars to the next meeting for co-ordination=again.

Meeting Date:

Next Meeting will be March 24th  at the West Windsor Library.  As noted above the program is an embroidered hanger.  Please bring your basic hand sewing supplies and a small hoop if you plan on stitching.

Hostess for March:

There is a need for hospitality people for the months of    February, April, July, August, October and the holiday party in December.

February Minutes:  WEE CARE WORKSHOP meeting. [Mary Lou sent the following]

Just wanted you all to know that we had nine members and one guest at our recent meeting.   The guest was Dee's friend, Liz Dey.  Cary came and gave me a check for Anna and herself.  That leaves only Beth unaccounted for.  Dee said Beth's husband was not doing well.

Tidbits of news!!

LINDA’S new granddaughter was born on Thursday March 12th…a two day early Birthday present! Congratulations to All…looking forward to Linda’s show n share…pictures of course!

If everyone doesn’t already know…Creative Needle Magazine is no longer in publication.  The Nov/Dec issue of 2008 was the last.  Bankruptcy is all we know.  We now all need to turn to each other for more inspiration.  To that end, please know that Collars Etc Patterns [Trudy Horne] is now posting articles on her website:   http://www.collarsetc.com  under her ‘news’ area for inspirations.

There is also a request from Australia via Country Bumpkin for Christening Gown donations to the areas/ people who suffered from the fires there recently.   Please consider sharing.

There are chapter workshops going on, please check SAGA’s website for more information.  Accessing the member’s area will give you complete details.  The toolbar on the left will give you some basic details.  Remember it is:  http://www.smocking.org          NOT SAGA.

Anyone having any other news to share please let me know.

See you all at the next meeting.
